We hope you enjoy these books as much as we have!
100 Picture Books To Read Before Kindergarten
Here is a list of 100 wonderful picture books that you can find at the library. Each one has been selected by our librarians to help with basic things you need to know before you start Kindergarten. They're also a lot of fun to read and share with friends! How many have you read?
Caldecott Medal Winning Books
The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually to the artist of the
most distinguished American picture book for children. You can see the medal on the front covers of the winning books.
This year the award went to The House in the Night, illustrated by Beth Krommes and written by Susan Marie Swansony. Be sure to look for it next time you come
to the library.
David Weisner's book Flotsam won the award in 2007. Can you find the medal on the cover in this picture of his book? (We gave you a hint...)
Newbery Award Winning Books
The Newbery Medal is presented annually to the author
of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children. This medal is also pictured on the front cover of the books that win this award. Look for books that have won the Newbery Award next time you come to the library.
This year the winning book was The Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman.
In 2007, The Higher Power of Lucky by Susan Patron won the Newbery Award. See if you can find the medal on the front cover of her book.
