Bonny Bonfire to speak at Bob Kirby Branch

Bonny Bonfire uses an original blend of poetry, hip-hop, storytelling, and
song, and speaks about real issues and real solutions. From local politics
to skateboarding to gargoyles and mustard greens, she loves to speak the truth. Bonfire is a spoken word poet, community organizer, co-editor of the BG Green Zine, and mentoring artist with Kaleidoscope Youth in Arts program.

Bonny will be at the Kirby Branch on Tuesday, May 20 at 6:30. For more

Janet Cline wins Miss Pickle Award

Janet Cline from the Smiths Grove Branch of the Bowling Green Public Library was awarded the Miss Pickle Award by the Kentucky Library Association. The Miss Pickle award is given each year at the conference and recognizes a librarian who has provided excellent children’s library services.

Nominees must have accomplished innovative children’s services in the
library, and children’s outreach library services. The nominee must practice cooperative involvement on the local and regional level and is also
judged on public awareness.

Congratulations to Janet who certainly exemplifies excellence in children's
library services!

BG Public Library Director to Leave May 31

Alisa Carmichael will be leaving the Bowling Green Public Library on May
31. She will join her husband John who is currently the Director of Bands at University of South Florida in Tampa.

“It has been a privilege to work with the Bowling Green Public Library
Board of Trustees, Friends of the Library members, and staff,” says
Carmichael. “We have incredibly talented and hard-working people here who are dedicated to providing the best possible library service. With the
commitment of this team and the support of the Bowling Green-Warren County community, the library’s future looks very bright. I feel very fortunate to have been here during this exciting time in our library’s history.”

“Alisa Carmichael’s contributions are immeasurable. She has heightened
awareness of the importance of our library system and has spearheaded the progress we have experienced over the last eight years,” says Jim Johnson,
Chairman of the Bowling Green Public Library Board of Directors.

Paws to Read:  Reading Adventure with Four-legged Friends

Specially trained dogs will be read to by area school children at the main library in May.  Participants can read to a yellow lab named Ace, and a beagle named Ashlyn.  Reading aloud to these extraordinary canines gives children a relaxing atmosphere in which to practice their reading skills.

The Bowling Green Public Library will Paint the Town REaD this summer. Alice Gatewood Waddell has been commissioned to create a special painting to commemorate this new summer event.

Alice Gatewood Waddell’s talent is widely known. She uses brilliant colors
and incorporates distinctive techniques. Waddell chooses to integrate positive meanings into her work. In this latest work, the meaning is clear…READ!

Alice works at the Graham Drive Community Branch. This new painting will be on display at the main library starting June 8.
